Profiles and Corner edges are necessary to finish off the impact protection slab flooring.

Impact Protection Corner and Edge Profiles compliment and neatly finish Impact Protection slabs. An important benefit is that they allow for wheelchair access, and they reduce the risk of stumbling, as well as neatening the edges.

Impact Protection Edges and Corner profiles are available in a variety of colours and thickness, to fit with the Impact protection slabs. See Critical Fall heights for more info.

Attention should be given to the placement of the slabs. See Placement for more info.

There are a four standard colours to chose from and a variety of with an EPDM top layer – See SBR vs EPDM for more info.

For each corner two profiles must be taken. Min order per Colour is 10m2.

Playground equipment comes in various heights, so Playsafe are able to offer shock-absorbing surfacing slabs which are suitable for any fall height.

Impact protection slabs provide outstanding absorption of impact shock, and protect against serious head injuries. Different Critical fall heights apply to different Impact protection slabs. For example the Playsafe Impact protection Slab 70 has a thickness of 70mm and provides protection for a 2,1m fall. All Impact protection Slabs are tested to determine their Head Injury Criterion (HIC) value. The critical fall height is defined as the lowest fall height that generates a HIC value of 1000.

The South African standard (SANS 51177:2010) for critical fall height has the identical implementation and is a direct adoption of the international EN Standard 1177:2008. Playsafe Impact protection slabs adheres to these standards, and certification and compliance is almost immediate once the floor is installed.

The integrated connector pins secure the slabs against accidental movement and theft.

There are a wide variety of peripheral playground accessories available, so do not forget to consider these.

There are a variety of colours that you can choose from. There are also multicolour slab mixtures that can be supplied, where two or three colours are combined at your request. Glitter can also be added to any of the slabs, to create some sparkle, and there are letter, number, and slabs with some motifs on them that can be added. There is a min order per Colour of 10m2. Colour variations are possible, as each computer screen will differ.

The proper placement of playground flooring is essential.

The below points regarding the placement of the flooring is very broad. More detailed information is available on request.

  • The protective surfacing should be extended to at least two meters from the equipment in all directions.
  • The impact protection flooring should extend in front of and behind a single axis swing, to the distance that is equal to the height of the top bar from which the swing is suspended.
  • The playground surfacing should cover a radius that is equal to the height of the suspending chain or rope plus two meters in all directions, for round or multi-axis swings.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomers (EPDM) is a high density synthetic rubber that is extremely versatile with an ability to withstand heat, ageing and is resistant to water swell, UV and ozone weathering than natural rubber.

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) comes from used car tyres that are stripped of all their metal reinforcing and then mechanically shredded into tiny granules. These rubber granules are available as different sized rubber.

It is a physically strong elastomer, has a low compression set, a high tensile strength, incredible elongation and a high resistance to abrasive substances and conditions.

EPDM offers more design freedom, than SBR because there are more EPDM colours
EPDM is more weather resistant and absorbs less solar heat.
EPDM is more expensive than SBR

But you can have the best of both products by having SBR as the cushion layer ad EPDM as the wear layer.

The Playsafe impact protections slabs offer a combination of SBR and EPDM options and can also be tailored to individual rubber requests.
